Kibingo serves 3,515 registered coffee growers, spread over 18 hills in the area and has won COE Burundi multiple times. Kibingo participates in a number of farmer outreach and support projects include a goat and pig project, Farmer Hub, which strengthens cooperatives and distributes fertilizer.
One of the challenges Burundi faces is the aging plantation. Most of the trees are hitting 50 years old, and each producer only owns a small plot of trees. In order to encourage the producers to plant more new coffee our exporting partner Greenco, who manage the washing station, establish nurseries and sells the seedlings to farmers at or below cost.
After these coffee cherries are sorted they’re transported directly to the drying tables where they will dry slowly for 3-4 weeks depending on the weather condition. This results in a coffee that provides a glimpse of the tropics in the cold winter, with notes of pineapple and mango.
